Those who knew Derek will remember him most for his energy and his passion which he had in abundance. He worked for Sunway Tenerife and Fuerteventura for 18 years, enthusiastically selling property and eventually being the driving force behind the success of the Fuerteventura office.

Derek’s zest for life was second to none, his weekends were enjoyed on the golf course and it was not uncommon for him to challenge clients to 9 or 18 holes. Such was his ability, Derek came 2nd equal in the 2004 Spanish Open Pro/Am tournament held in Fuerteventura.

He was a generous Yorkshire man who wore his heart on his sleeve. We will all miss his robust and charming character, he truely was one in a million.

UD Fuerteventura were in the 3rd Division, Group XII. However, a long and difficult 2006/07 season saw some strong team performances and as the saying goes ‘When the going gets tough, the tough gets going’, UD Fuerteventura sucessfully came through the playoff stages to gain promotion to the 2nd Division B, Group I. This year they will be playing the likes of Lanzarote, Deportivo B, Lugo and Athletico Madrid B.

UD Fuerteventura pay their home games on a Sunday in the capital Puerto Del Rosario, where there is plenty of local support and even a British supporters club who follow all the home games. This year there will be the opportunity to see the rising stars from the big clubs, as the ‘B’ teams are generally the reserves for La Liga teams Deportivo, Celta and At. Madrid.
